The breathtaking landscape of lush heathland, rolling hills, and towering mountains that surround the mystical Highlands provide a stunning backdrop for recording atmospheric wind phenomena. With minimal tree cover, the Scottish Highlands offer ideal locations to capture the pure symphony of wind energy transforming into sound.

Chasing the Winds

A Quest for the Perfect Recording Spots

Driving over 2000km across the Scottish Highlands, we embarked on a quest to find the most diverse and perfect recording spots for our wind ambience library.
Seeking refuge from direct wind blasts behind small hills and hillocks, we were accompanied only by the constant companion of wind, as birds and humans were rarely interrupting us.
The warm assistance of friendly locals also aided us in discovering unique recording places.

Customized Rig for Capturing Cinematic Winds

Equipped with a customized wide-spaced omni rig consisting of 5 Sennheiser 8020 microphones, we ensured that our recording system was tailored to meet the needs of cinematic ambience and design. Prior to our recording trip, we put significant effort into making the rig wind and storm safe, conducting weeks of testing with custom-built blower systems. After meticulous tweaking and test recordings, we were confident in our rig’s performance and readiness to face the storm
