Immersive Surround Sound and Exceptional Stereo Recordings
This library boasts over 50 sound files, with the majority captured in discrete 5.0 surround sound. Our wide-spaced surround rig, equipped with five omnidirectional Sennheiser 8020 microphones, delivers an expansive, lush sound field with a maximum time-of-arrival effect. Through extensive testing, we’ve ensured that these recordings are perfect for cinematic sound design. Moreover, the spacious microphone setup allows for seamless mixing down to stereo, making them ideal for TV, games, or headphone setups. The stereo versions also preserve the pleasing width of the 5.0 recordings.
In addition to our surround sound recordings, we’ve included a selection of exceptional stereo-only captures. These moments were recorded when our surround rig was not available, ensuring you have a comprehensive set of high-quality audio assets to elevate your projects.
Lastly, we took our carefully edited material to 48 Volt Studios in Hamburg, where we sent selected sounds through the finest analog outboard mastering gear. This meticulous process generated hot sounding variants that are sure to elevate your projects. It was crucial for us to preserve the natural dynamic range of the recordings, so we refrained from excessive compression or limiting. This means that when using our sound effects, you may need to adjust the volume slightly higher compared to some existing old school sound effects, ensuring an authentic and impactful experience.
We utilized the cutting-edge underwater stereo recording rig from Sonar Surround to capture an extensive frequency range of “5Hz to 85kHz” with remarkable sensitivity, resulting in a dynamic range exceeding 100dB. Our final recordings left us astounded, especially when pitched down one to two octaves, unveiling intricate details within each delicate water bubble.
That’s why we included pitched-down versions of the underwater recordings for superior results during offline recalculations, ensuring you can make the most of these captivating sounds. Get ready to dive into a world of inspiration with the pitched-down versions!

In addition to the underwater recordings, we embarked on exclusive field recording sessions at a serene and picturesque lake. With our Schoeps MS Stereo Rig, our focus was on capturing immersive and dynamic water sound effects from above the surface.
We brought along various props including a large drainpipe, big plastic buckets, pedals, and a slingshot, enabling us to create a diverse range of impacts, movements, splashes, sloshes, swirling, and gurgling water sound effects.
This expansion pack was realized in collaboration with Georg Rohbeck and Jedsound. It offers two flavors: Analog & Digital. For the Analog part, Georg Rohbeck used carefully selected high-end analog outboard equipment. He shaped our original source material during extensive processing sessions into punchy, hot and creamy growling sound effects.
The Whoosh Original version offers you high quality source material to design the coolest sounding whoosh and pass by sound effects.
The Expansion Pack offers you an unique and characterful collection of sound effects carefully shaped and processed by only using the source material of The Whoosh.
The main part of this soundpack is the result of an extra long and challenging session we planned together with Stefan Reißig. Through him we were able to record climbing arcs from a jacob´s ladder, manually pulled arcs with a stick, electrical discharges around a glass plate, capacitor discharges and electrified objects like wood branches, apples and bones. The special thing about this Jacob´s Ladder is that it can be modulated in speed. This produced very extreme and expressive sounds. Stefan studied electrical engineering and collects all this crazy high voltage equipment. Big credit goes to him and be sure to check out his youtube channel Teslalabor, where he posts all his crazy experiments!
With this ambience surround library you get the sound of Istanbul, captured with our discrete wide spaced omni rig which has proven to be perfect for cinematic needs. You get over 27 GB of 5.0 ambiences capturing sounds ranging from characterful narrow side streets to busy high streets, lively squares, vivid pedestrian areas, clouds of walla, small and big construction sides and ideal diffuse top roof atmospheres. We recorded on the Asian and European side of Istanbul, indoors and outdoors – during all day times. We covered historic places from the Cistern Basilica, the Grand Bazaar or the Blue Mosque. We have been there to capture as much of this breath taking city as possible.
Istanbul is vibrant, fascinating and huge! It is actually the largest european city and the gate to the Asian continent. You will be served with empty mosques, spacious bazaar bustle, diffuse call to prayers, lively small streets, playing children, dense walla, ringing tram bells, heavy traffic, screaming seagulls and much more. The sheer size of Istanbul becomes more apparent when recording from a top roof and we got plenty of those!
For producing the city ambience library of Istanbul we have made a lot of research and together with the crucial help from the local director Sinem Sakaoglu, we managed to get to places, that would not have been accessible without her. For example recording in the Basilica Cistern or the Blue Mosque without any people or tourists was quiet an experience. We were equipped with our wide spaced omni rig (The Williams Tree), with 5 Sennheiser Mkh 8020 microphones and an extra Double MS Setup with a Mkh8040,8050 and Mkh30 for situations where we had to be most flexible.
We can´t praise our wide spaced Omni Rig enough, we did several tests in the past, and we can say with certainty that true wide spaced time of arrival recorded ambiences are best suited for cinematic needs. But also on studio or TV speakers this wideness just pleases the listener.
A lot of the ambiences can be used for other cities places as well. We can imagine a lot of projects and scenarios where this library has to offer a lot in terms for designing urban ambiences. Enjoy diving into one of one of the most interesting cities on Earth – Istanbul.
