Experience the devices we recorded
From dissonant drones to massive swells, “Sentient Frequencies” lets you experience the richness of performed instruments with sound fx in mind.
We performed, played, hit and rubbed these instruments with a carefully chosen collection of mallets, diverse superballs, bows, and custom devices.
Roaring didgeridoos, whaling timpani’s – we performed in stunning spaces using extended techniques on a huge variety of selected instruments:
1. Space Cello
A unique instrument. One bridge with two strings, which are attached via two springs to two drums, that act as the resonant body. And the springs are there for the reverb.
Beautiful and strange.
2. Grand Piano
Playing the corpus of a grand piano with super balls will give you melancholic calling drones. Perfect for your whaling and melancholic moments.
3. Huge Pipe Organ
A massive instrument with an awe-inspiring sound that can fill an entire cathedral with its deep, rumbling tones.
To record such an instrument in a studio environment was a unique experience.
4. Concert Timpani’s and base drum
Large percussion instruments that can produce thunderous booms and rumbling lows.
5. Hurdy Gurdy
A medieval instrument with a unique, haunting sound that can be used to create eerie and atmospheric textures.
The one we recorded is one of the biggest hurdy gurneys around. Played in the chapel it nearly sounded as massive as an organ, making your hackle rise.
6. Didgeridoo
A traditional Australian instrument that produces deep, resonant drone sounds, ideal for creating earthy and organic soundscapes.
7. Concert harp
A majestic instrument with a shimmering, angelic sound, although we tried more the dissonant and resonant side of it.
8. Overtone Flute
A unique wind instrument capable of producing a range of harmonics and overtones, perfect for creating haunting melodies and atmospheric effects.
Haunting textures and hits
High-frequency mic setups
We recorded with 3 different mic setups and positions:
– In 7.0 Surround. 7 x Sennheiser MKH 8020. This setup was positioned quite distant to the sound source and will be a joy to use in wide cinema context.
– LCR with 3(!) Sanken CO-100k, to get you the most high frequency action. They were positioned at medium distance to the sound source.
– 1 Schoeps MS (with XT body to extend the frequency range) positioned close to the sound source. The Harp was recorded with a Trance Audio Inducer Piezo mic.
We also include carefully crafted mix-downs for your convenience: 5.0 surround Mix-downs and Stereo Mix-downs of everything.
